Do you have Spring Fever? We do!
It’s that time of year…when college students put away their books, take out their swimsuits, and fly, carpool, drive or swim to the nearest spring break haven of cheap beer, tequila, and mild hedonism. Even if those days are past for you, mid-March still brings thoughts of sunny beaches, warm water, and just a place to cut loose and relax! Here is a profile of some of the most popular North American spring break destinations. And hey, even if you can’t take a real vacation there, at least you can take a mental one!
Daytona Beach, Florida

Daytona, Florida
Daytona Beach, FL has long been a favorite destination for American college students and party-goers. With a population of about 64,000 people, Daytona is the principal city in the “Fun Coast” region of Florida. In recent years, authorities have begun to crack down on underage drinking, prompting some spring breakers to migrate elsewhere. Also the location of the NASCAR headquarters, Daytona is a hotspot for motor sports and racing. With over 8 million tourists flocking to Daytona every year, the city caters to travelers and offers a bevy of shopping, entertainment, hotels in all price ranges, and nightlife to satisfy the frat-boy within all of us.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Another popular warm weather destination isn’t by the beach at all–in fact, it’s in the middle of the desert. Las Vegas, Nevada si synonymous with high-rolling good times, raucous fun, and the occasional personal disaster. There’s a reason everyone knows the phrase, “What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas!” Of all the locations here, Vegas perhaps offers the greatest variety of attractions. Amusement rides, big-budget performances, concerts and other entertainment, and tours of the city’s architectural wonders–in Vegas, you can travel around the world without ever leaving the US!–make Vegas an excellent location for a family trip, with plenty to amuse both the young and old. For the 24/7 party people, Vegas is a dream come true–the casinos want to keep you inside, spending your money, so often they provide free drinks on the gambling floor, and there are often very few windows, so if you want to party all day and all night, go right ahead! And of course, there is the gambling. Whatever level your bank account cashes in at, Vegas has the game for you! A smart rule to follow: set a limit for yourself before you head to the gambling floor, and stick to it! (Another rule you might want to consider: don’t let yourself get married to anyone you weren’t already planning on spending your life with! Just a thought…)

Bermuda
Due to a more northern latitude than some of these other spring break destinations, Bermuda is a bit chillier this time of year. However, it’s stunning beaches, turquoise water, colonial flair and charming pastel architecture make Bermuda a world-wide favorite vacation destination. Moped along the quiet streets of the island, and you’ll see stucco houses of white, peach, and pale blue, with the distinctive round moon-gate arches opening onto courtyards filled with hibiscus blossoms.
Bermuda’s clear, warm waters make it the perfect place for swimming, snorkeling, and diving (not to mention the shipwrecks that litter the nearby waters!)

Hamilton, Bermuda
Other water sports include paraskiing, parasailing, boating, and then some. Either made from soft, powdery, white sand or pale pink sand, Bermuda’s beaches will entice you to stretch out and perhaps never get up! Downtown Bermuda offers a host of entertainment options, from cosmopolitan dining and world-class theatrical entertainment to bars and dance clubs which get especially rowdy when large ships (either military or leisure cruise) pull into the harbor.
South Padre Island, Texas
A barrier island along the Texas Gulf Coast, South Padre Island is a popular spring destination for college and high school students, and is also a top vacation spot for fishing enthusiasts. Every summer South Padre Island hosts the Texas International Fishing Tournament, bringing visitors from all over the world and doling out winnings totaling almost a quarter of a million dollars.

A rare quiet dusk on South Padre Island
For spring breakers, South Padre Island offers beaches, parties, and tons of water sports. Dolphin watches and horseback rides on the beach are other popular activities outdoor activities. But for spring-breakers, the real attraction is Coca-Cola beach, which The Travel Channel called “the biggest beach party on the planet.” With live concerts, DJs, prize giveaways, and thousands of barely-clad bodies, this is one heck of a spring break bash!
