Sedona: A Secret under the Arizona Sun

I am six hours north from El Paso while the terrain changes from sand and cactus to more sand and saguaro cactus.  Red rock glistens in the sun.  Like a mound of clay placed between two hills, the rock waits for visitors.  As I approach Sedona there is a wow factor that is beyond sensation.  Who knew that someone could get so ecstatic about brightly colored rock? I fall victim to this statement. There is a sunburst that heaps rust, reds, and rouges that make me wonder is this put here by Mother Nature?  You have to experience it to believe it.  Walls of red rock consume the road as I approach my destination which is right on top of a mountain.  My eyes stare without delay to the stones at sunset.  The air smells of wet clay and adobe.  A small breeze heightens my senses and I undergo what Sedona has to offer. Finally color swirls of pinks, blues, oranges, and violets fill the sky behind the red rock. I don’t even see all the people to my left and right.  An inciting explosion of color leaves the crowd feeling breathless.  No one says a word.  Night falls upon the small town as the last hot air balloon descends down and fades away into the rocky background.

Besides red rock scenery there are trails, jeep and hot air balloon rides that enthuse the anxious adventurer.  Sedona is filled with lots of fun activities. I approach funky stores and small art galleries that hold large astonishing artworks. Colorful cactus paintings and turquoise necklaces submerge the small shops. There is a sort of force field surrounding Sedona that makes it peaceful, calming, and healing. It could be from the help of aura readers, acupuncturists, and healing copper bracelets that will make you feel stress free. I walk around in amazement.  There is even a McDonald’s in Sedona that is the only one with a teal colored arch.  And for a moment I stop to think.  How did I not know about this place?  It’s an interesting find; a secret that for one to stumble upon would surely intensify your senses and leave you feeling awestruck.
