Seize the Day

It was a week ago when I finally had to put my money where my mouth was.  The time had finally come to purchase tickets for my worldwide journey.  What started as only a vague idea in my head five months ago had come to fruition.  The idea had led to planning, planning had led to research (and a good friend joining-in), and research had led to concrete plans being made.  So there I sat seven days ago, staring at my computer screen.  The time had come to put this in stone.  Here goes…I clicked “Purchase” and the deal was done.

Ok, here’s the plan.  My friend and I are going to wander/work our way across Europe.  The goal is to keep moving east.  Once we find ourselves on the far end of the continent, well, we’ll probably just keep going.  The wanderlust is strong within me, and this will be the ultimate test of just how strong it really is.  It all kicks-off in Iceland this January.  Yes, we will be visiting a country with the word, “ice” in it’s name during the heart of winter.  Hey, what better way to start this massive adventure right?  After that it’s off to Portugal.  There we’ll be doing a work-exchange for free room and board.  From there on we’ll just plan it as we go.  Hmm, is this coming across as crazy or really ambitious?

Personally I think there’s a little crazy and ambition going on here.  I’ve tried to live my life up to this point in an “outside the box” type of way.  Travel plays a huge part in that.  If you’ve got that unexplainable itch to just get out there, to see where that road ends up, or to experience life in a yurt on the steppes of Mongolia (like me)…then I say Carpe Diem!!  Just look at this site.  There are so many interesting places to see out there, so many adventures to undertake.  The 9 to 5 life serves a purpose, but should it replace your goals and dreams?  To some, travel is just the occasional two week vacation from their cubicle once a year.  To others (and you know who you are), it’s a life-enrapturing experience.  Check out the blogs on this site, let them tickle your fancy.  It was a blog sent to me by a friend that kindled the fire of this trip.

Hopefully I’ll be coming back here to give updates on my trip in the near future.  If anything, I hope to inspire people to get out there and go for it.  This time next year I hope to be wandering south towards the Caucasus Mountains (bonus points for anyone who knows where that is).  But for now I’ll start prepping for a winter in Reykjavik.  Bring it on…

A must visit is Iceland despite the vocano..actually without the vocanic activity, I am not sure there would much beauty in Iceland or many other places. Forgive it and love it. I love mountain places. Keep your sea and let me take you to my favorite mountain places.
Figure it yourself, a sunrise through the snow tips and the Aspens swinging to slow musical breeze beckoning to the sun to hurry up to the peak.

What is Summer without a National Park, a Game Reserve Visit or a good Swim? Lets get to the Rockies.
Start with Yellow stone. Remember I preach locals?
April 15-25th is the National Park week. Get yourself into one near you or join the Junior Ranger day somewhere. Give back to the natural green by signing into one of the offers across the globe. They are recession friendly offers.

Next Year, I will regret if I do not sleep under the shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro…I do not swear, but if you would like my experienced free opinion on how to get there, you are welcome when I come back from Seattle or the next Marathon.
