Open Road Inspiration
In my last post, “Seize the Day,” I expressed the outlook I have on travel. It’s not just a vacation, and for some it becomes a “life-enrapturing” experience. Well, this all started out as a feeling I had within me. When I was younger I couldn’t really explain it. I can just remember times where I would look off into the distance and just wonder what was out there. Excitement would just rise up and grab me with just the mere thought of finding out. When you find yourself staring down the expanse of an open road for long periods of time, well you know you have issues (but not necessarily bad ones!)…
So in light of open roads, I turn to 3 of the most awesome road trips I’ve ever been on. These trips helped me quench some of the wandering and exploring desires I had within me. But little did I know at the time, they were to serve as major inspiration for the trip I’m about to embark on. I have a little less than 3 months until I’m outta here, so that will give me some time to get into these. I undertook each of these in a little over a year. Each one lasted around 10 days, and took me through vast sections of the western half of the country. It’s so easy to look past the US to areas beyond our borders, but there’s so much to see here!
To anyone that has embarked on a major road trip, you know the rush it can be. Remember though, if you just see traveling as getting from point A to point B, you might not understand this. But picture it for a second: …The road stretches out before you as the yellow line down the center seems to trace a path to the horizon. Off in the distance a mountain range looms, hinting to you about the excitement to come. Your faithful steed could be anything from an old junker on it’s last legs, to your Dad’s gorgeous convertible that you finally convinced him to let you borrow. Wind is whipping through your hair, the tunes are playing high, and you couldn’t imagine this adventure with anyone else but the person beside you…
Maybe that’s the idealized version. But on these 3 trips I got something pretty close to that. I’ll be recounting these in my upcoming blogs:
Trip 1: Reno, NV to Seattle, WA (by way of Wyoming…)
Trip 2: Laughlin, NV to Denver, CO
Trip 3: Minneapolis, MN to Salt Lake City, UT
If you’ve never explored the western half of the US, you are definitely missing out. These 3 trips gave me all I could handle, combining for an absolutely incredible experience. Reno and the surrounding area give a great taste of the west. I’ll jump into that next!
