The Jewish Museum-Berlin

This innovative, architectural masterpiece by Daniel Libeskind, presents the plight of the Jewish people through the actual design of the building. One of the most effective measures that Libeskind instills in the museum is three underground axes (Axis of Continuity, Axis of Emigration and Axis of the Holocaust), that represent the reality of German Jews and their dark history.

At the end of the Axis of the Holocaust, there is an inconspicuous door that leads to the Holocaust Tower, a vacant tower whose only source of light is a tiny slit at the very top. Spending a few minutes alone in this tower is a very sobering experience to say the least, which is exactly the intention of Libeskind’s design for this structure.
