Berlin

I had been backpacking through Europe, with a friend for nearly two months, when we made our way into this vibrant German city. The past mingled with the progressive present on every street corner, down every alley. After a few hours of roaming around the city, I felt like I had found an old friend, one who had confidently revealed her darkest secrets to me and afterwards welcomed me with open arms. Although the bitter aftertaste of the not-so-distant past lingers everywhere from the remains of the Wall, to the still-standing Checkpoint Charlie, one gets the feeling from the locals of the necessity to move on and embrace the revival of a once fallen city. The true beauty of this city is its ability to reinvent itself, while simultaneously keeping a respectful eye towards its past.
